Anette Olzon's Ever Dream demo

So Anette gave us another demo song today. It is not a song from her unreleased solo album, but her version of "Ever Dream" which she sent to Tuomas while NW was looking for new singer.

Check the song here.

What do you think?

Interesting.. She did mess up the lyrics in a few spots and it doesn't have Emppu's iconic solo in it either... plus you can tell that they used a drum machine and MIDI for the keys, but a demo is a demo and her voice was the focal point. This isn't that bad considering that this was 2005, but this really isn't the style that Tuomas should have been looking at in my opinion. I am sure she would kick ass at karaoke with this song, but for a spot in NW?? IDK, I am sure there were better candidates than her no offense to Anette. And I am almost positive that she is leaps and bounds better now than when this was recorded 6 years ago.

She did mess up the lyrics a few times, and that was the wrong synth playing some of the wrong chords in the beginning, but other than that, I thought it was pretty good.

I don't think it's that bad! She did mess up some lyrics, yes, and the instruments were odd, but it's a demo, so so what? I like how she adjusted it to suit her range.

It makes me a bit frustrated, though, because she doesn't seem to make those adjustments live as well as she does in studio. And that's Anette's big downfall: her live stuff. Lizzie and I discussed on FB that the conditions are so different live vs. studio, and I accept that. I just think it's a shame.

What NW should have done is do these kinds of adjustments for EVERY Tarja-era song. It was short-sighted of them not to do so. Anette did the right thing here with Everdream; Tuomas should have taken her lead and done the same with her for all the other songs, too.
