GOOD post. As a power metal (predominantly) fan, I face a lot of "gay" or "flowery" hatred simply because some people think this genre can't be taken seriously. I've found that I don't dislike any whole genre, but merely individual bands and sounds. Discriminating against a genre is sad, not only is it immature, but it walls you off from a large amount of enjoyable music.
I agree. Then there are those metal heads that don't think you're a "real" metal head if you listen to, say, Adele. There is also the perception that "pop metal" is bad,b but man, I do enjoy some poppier metal a lot. There is too much judgement amongst metalheads and TBH the elitists give metalheads a bad name.
I definitely don't care for some poppier metal, but then I still enjoy a bout or two of Amaranthe's debut from time to time. Also I love Hevisaurus, and I think that's an unforgiveable offense. :D
Come to think of it, I think I'm kind of elitist about stuff sometimes. Hopefully I'm not too offensive. :P
Very interesting video! I think that elitists are around for the sake of keeping a genre a certain way without the influence of outside elements affecting the original sound of that style of music. For metal, many do not want influences of rap, country, dance, or whatever style that can taint the original sound, which is why nu-metal was so looked down upon for most metal heads. I am pretty open minded when it comes to metal or music in general, so I try to look at the good in music, especially now that I am older and wiser about things. Nice post!
BTW Canuck, I consider Evanescence to be pop goth rock/alternative rock and not metal IMO. I am not trying to insult Eva though when I say they are pop rock because not all pop is bad though.. I like Adele! :D
I like most forms of metal, but I disagree with a lot of the video's comments. Metal bands are not underground by choice. They are forced there by the refusal of mainstream radio and media to play and promote them, especially if they have female vocalists. Being on a social network is the only way these bands can be seen or heard, it doesn't make them mainstream.
Metal elitists hating classical music? Most Metal is based on classical music! I've never in my life heard a metal fan put down classical music!
Pop music is created by highly paid producers purely for the purpose of selling music that will appeal to the masses. Why should metal bands or any other style lower themselves to such standards. According to the video's author, they should do it to make money. Well, sorry, that's not why real musicians make music!

I've been hassled for liking Evanescence because they're not "real" metal! Grrrr!
